Springhill Kids and Cupernham, both from Division 6 , have both made good starts to the season and clashed for the first time this campaign in the Hampshire Cup.

Springhill established an early lead and built on this to go in four goals up at half time, but Cupernham came back in the second half to make it 4-3.  Springhill, however, made certain of victory with a fifth goal following an intense period of pressure.

"The boys have been really looking forward to this game to test themselves against other sides that are performing well.  They have demonstrated that they can play really good football.  Credit to their keeper as he made some outstanding saves and kept the score down to five goals.
"Our keeper is a little annoyed that he touched the ball five times in the game and three of those were to pick the ball out of the net!" joked Springhill manager Rob Frisby shortly after the match.

The Pink - Saturday November 3rd 2001

"We've done alright so far this season, we were 3 - 0 up against Springhill but we lost it in the second half and drew 3 - 3. Springhill seemed to have steam-rollered everyone they've met since and are top of the league, so judging by that we should definately be challenging at the top this year," said a rightfully optimistic S&D A boss Dave Martin after their 6 - 1 away win at Gang Warily

SKFC FOOTY NEWS     Issue 1

Springhill Kids continued with their run of form at the top of the table with a dominating 7-0 win against Cupernam.
Last week Springhill played the same team and recorded a splendid 9-2 result over Cupernam in second place in Division 6 of the Under 12s Tyro League. Both teams have made good a good start to the season but Springhill had a psychological advantage before these games with a win over their close rivals in the Hampshire Cup earlier in the season.
Springhill dominated all aspects of the game with the goalkeeper touching the ball twice and having no saves to make at all. In a competitive first half Springhill went in at half time 2-0 up. In the second half Springhill showed why they are top of the league with a further five goals without reply.
Springhill Manager Rob Frisby said "Several parents approached me to say how well the boys are playing. Some commented that the passing game we play is better than some of the adult teams they have seen. This is very encouraging but we have some very tough games coming up where the boys will have the opportunity to show what they are made of.
Credit to Cupernam as they kept trying and did not give up. They have shown good sportsmanship in all of the games we have played them in."

SPRINGHILL KIDS IN FOOTIE

Andrew Jordan - son of Scottish International Joe Jordan, attended Springhill when his dad was playing for the Saints. Andy began his football career as a trainee in 1997 when Joe was manager of Bristol City. Andy joined Cardiff City in October 2000 and is currently part of the Sam Hamman / Alan Cork Bluebird's revival.
In true Dads tradition Andy scored an own goal in his debut match but the Bluebirds went on to beat their cup rivals 5 -1 in an exciting game. He has since score another own goal in glorious fashion - well done.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Andy made his International debut for the Scotland U-21 team against Bosnia in October 1999.

Joe Keenan    - son of ex Springhill Dads John Keenan is in the Chelsea youth / reserves squad, and now in the England under 20's side - scoring the winner against Portugal at St Mary's.    He's doing really well, ta!

Chelsea assistant manager Gwyn Williams: “Joe’s a Southampton born and bred boy, born 200 yards from Southampton Football Club, and was really disappointed when we played our reserve game there early in the season because he was injured. Now he’s won an England match instead.

“He’s a very gifted technical player, short and long passing, he’s quick, left footed, and another one who went through the national school at Lilleshall.”
A week ago Joe scored the winner for Chelsea Reserves at home to Coventry. He has been an unused substitute twice this season for the first team, away and at home to Hapoel Tel-Aviv.
